Centre Plaza Apartments Garage Repair Project Wins ACI Pittsburgh Award

The Centre Plaza Apartments Garage project won the 2026 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Pittsburgh Area Chapter Excellence in Concrete Project Award in the Repair and Restoration category.

This nine-story apartment building with three garage levels experienced deficiencies of the existing storm water conveyance system that, when combined with traffic from vehicles entering the garage resulted in water infiltration into the framed garage levels. The water infiltration into the topping slab and precast hollow core planks resulted in corrosion of prestressing strands and embedded steel plate connectors. 

WJE assessed the deterioration of the precast hollow core plank system, designed and documented necessary structural repairs and garage improvements, and provided construction phase services, including site visits, submittal reviews, testing review, and field coordination.

This award recognizes excellence in structural and architectural design, unique and innovative construction or application, and sustainable uses of concrete in construction projects in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northwest West Virginia.
